Iran unveils details of transit to Afghanistan via South Khorasan Province

BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 3. Iran’s South Khorasan Province in the north-east of the country transited 49,000 tons of cargo to Afghanistan during the first 6 months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through September 22, 2023), Director General of Iran's South Khorasan Province Customs Office Mohammad Kuhgerd said, Trend reports.

The customs official also said that the cargo came from Türkiye, the UAE, Russia, Indonesia and Vietnam, and passed through the Mahirud customs of the province. The main transit items were flour, equipment, almonds, shampoo, and others, and they were carried by 2,036 trucks.

Kuhgerd added that the province imported more than 1 ton of goods, worth over $4 million, in the same period.

According to him, the imports mainly consisted of equipment and spare parts for the mining sector, generators, rice, ferrosilicon, cotton, and others. The main sources of the imports were Germany, Türkiye, Afghanistan and Uzbekistan.

Overall, Iran imported 17.6 million tons of goods worth $30.4 billion in the first half of the current Iranian year (March 21 through September 22, 2023). This is an increase of 11.6 percent in value and 6.89 percent in volume compared to the same period last year.

At the same time, 7.7 million tons of cargo were transited through Iran for 6 months, which is an increase of 8.24 percent compared to the same period last year.
