Iran importing more goods from Eurasian Economic Union than exporting

BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 5. Iran’s imports from the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) amounted to $1.03 billion in the first half of the current Iranian year (March 21 through September 22, 2023), Director General of the International Customs Cooperation Office of the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA), Omid Golzari said, Trend reports.

According to him, Iran imported 1.92 million tons of goods from the EAEU members in 6 months, with Russia being ar the top ($926 million worth of goods purchased).

The official added that Iran’s imports from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Belarus stood at $40 million, $3.65 million, and $36.5 million respectively in the same period.

Golzari also pointed out that the value of Iran’s imports from other EAEU member countries was $23.4 million during 6 months.

Iran’s total non-oil trade with the EAEU was $1.8 billion in the first half of the current Iranian year, involving 3.9 million tons of goods.

Meanwhile, Iran’s total non-oil trade turnover for the first half of this year was $54.6 billion, involving 85.3 million tons of goods. This was an increase of 4.84 percent in value and 23.7 percent in volume compared to the same period last year.

Overall, Iran imported 17.6 million tons of goods worth $30.4 billion in the first half of the current Iranian year (March 21 through September 22, 2023). This is an increase of 11.6 percent in value and 6.89 percent in volume compared to the same period last year.
