Iran sees increase in bony fish caught in Caspian Sea

BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 6. The volume of bony fish caught in the Caspian Sea in Iran has increased by 2 percent over the past 20 days (October 17 through November 5, 2023), Deputy Chairman of Iran Fisheries Organization Reza Abbaspour Naderi said, Trend reports.

The official noted that 270 tons of bony fish were caught in the Caspian Sea during the mentioned period.

Abbaspour Naderi added that this year, bony fish fishing in the Caspian Sea began in mid-October and will continue until early April.

According to him, the main fish caught in 20 days were carp mullet and Caspian kutum.

“At present, 347 cooperatives are engaged in fishing in the north and south of the country. There are 136,000 fishermen operating in the north and south of Iran. About 9,500 of them are engaged in fishing in the Caspian Sea in the north of the country, and the remaining 126,500 people are engaged in fishing in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman in the south of the country,” he said.

Iran catches bony fish from the Caspian Sea in the waters of Mazandaran, Gilan and Golestan provinces. Last season (October 9, 2022 through March 30, 2023), 6,000 tons of bony fish were caught in the Caspian Sea in Iran.
