Iran’s raw steel and steel products export growing

BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 3. Iran's raw steel exports increased by 7.4 percent in the first eight months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through November 21, 2023), compared to the same period last year, Trend reports.

Data from Iranian Steel Producers Association (ISPA), Iran exported 4.9 million tons of raw steel in 8 months.

In the same period of the previous Iranian year, the figure was 4.57 million tons.

Over the course of eight months, Iran exported 3.42 million tons of billet and bloom, showing a 2-percent drop year-on-year (compared to 3.48 million tons in the previous year).

At the same time, Iran exported 1.49 million tons of slabs for 8 months, representing a 37.6 percent increase from the same period last year (when the figure was 1.08 million tons).

Furthermore, Iran exported 2.15 million tons of steel products in 8 months, reflecting a 0.3-percent increase compared to the corresponding period last year (2.14 million tons).

Also, 1.1 tons of sponge iron were exported from Iran in eight months, indicating a remarkable 102 percent increase compared to the same period last year (when the figure was 543,000 tons).

Along with all these, 4.44 million tons of iron ore concentrate were exported from the country during 8 months, represents a staggering 761 percent increase from the same period last year (when the export was 516,000 tons).

Reportedly, Iran's annual steel production capacity is around 40 million tons. Iran plans to increase the figure to 55 million tons by 2025.
