Iran’s bony fish catching in Caspian Sea down

BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 10. The volume of bony fish caught in the Caspian Sea in Iran has decreased by 3 percent over the past 53 days (October 17 through December 8, 2023), Deputy Chairman of Iran Fisheries Organization Reza Abbaspour Naderi said, Trend reports.

According to Naderi, 935 tons of bony fish were caught in the Caspian Sea during the mentioned period.

In 53 days, Iran caught 335 tons of trout, 423 tons of mullet, 159 tons of carp and 18 tons of other fish from the Caspian Sea, he added.

The official also stated that compared to the same period last year, trout fishing rose by 17 percent, carp fishing grew by 96 percent, while mullet fishing dropped by 26 percent.

Iran catches bony fish from the Caspian Sea in the waters of Mazandaran, Gilan and Golestan provinces. Last season (October 9, 2022 through March 30, 2023), 6,000 tons of bony fish were caught in the Caspian Sea in Iran.

At present, 347 cooperatives are engaged in fishing in the north and south of the country. There are 136,000 fishermen operating in the north and south of Iran. About 9,500 of them are engaged in fishing in the Caspian Sea in the north of the country, and the remaining 126,500 people are engaged in fishing in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman in the south of the country.
