BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 2. Iran's overall steel export (including, raw steel, steel products, sponge iron, iron ore, etc.), rose by 19 percent in value and 73.2 percent in volume, during the first nine months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through December 21, 2023), compared to the same period last year, Trend reports.
Data from the Iranian Steel Producers Association (ISPA) shows that Iran exported nearly 21.7 million tons of various steel products, worth $5.54 billion in 9 months.
Meanwhile, in the same period last Iranian year, the country’s total steel exports stood at 12.5 million tons worth $4.65 billion.
In 9 months, Iran's raw steel exports amounted to 5.62 million tons worth about $2.74 billion. This is 4.9 percent more in value and 7.6 percent more in volume compared to the same period last year.
At the same time, Iran exported 2.48 million tons of steel products worth $1.3 billion, which is a decrease of 6.4 percent in value, while an increase of 0.8 percent in volume compared to the same period last year.
During the mentioned period, Iran's sponge iron export was 1.21 million tons worth $301 million, showing 141 percent in value and 92.7 percent in volume compared to the same period last year.
Meanwhile, 5.12 million tons of iron ore concentrate worth $460 million were exported from the country in the specified period. This is an increase of 630 percent in value and 875 percent in volume from the same period last year.
Over the course of nine months, Iran's iron ore pellet export amounted to 7.22 million tons worth $734 million, representing a 59.9-percent increase in value and a 97-percent in volume in volume compared to the same period last year.
Reportedly, Iran's annual steel production capacity is around 40 million tons. Iran plans to increase the figure to 55 million tons by 2025.
