Iran sees increase in raw steel exports

BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 4. Iran's raw steel exports rose by 7.7 percent in value and 10.8 percent in volume, during the first ten months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2023 through January 20, 2024), compared to the same period last year, Trend reports.

Data from Iranian Steel Producers Association (ISPA), Iran exported around 6.32 million tons of raw steel, valued at $3.06 billion in 10 months.

In the corresponding period of the previous Iranian year, the figure was 5.7 million tons, worth $2.84 billion.

At the same time, Iran exported 2.8 million tons of steel products, worth approximately $1.47 billion over the course of ten months, reflecting a 5.5-percent decrease in value and a 5.5-percent increase in volume compared to the same period last year.

The latest data from the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) shows that Iran exported 113 million tons of non-oil products valued at $40.5 billion in the first ten months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2023 through January 20, 2024). This represents an 11 percent drop in value but a 9.4 percent rise in volume compared to the same period last year.

Reportedly, Iran's annual steel production capacity is around 40 million tons. Iran plans to increase the figure to 55 million tons by 2025.
