BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 7. Iran's raw steel output rose by 5 percent in the first 10 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2023 through January 20, 2024), compared to the same period last year, Trend reports.
Data from the Iranian Steel Producers Association shows that about 27.1 million tons of crude steel were produced in the country during the reporting period.
Meanwhile, in the same period last year, Iran’s raw steel production amounted to approximately $25.8 million tons.
Furthermore, Iran produced 18.2 million tons of steel products in 10 months, representing a decrease of 0.3 percent compared to around 18.3 million tons in the same period last year.
The report states that 30 million tons of sponge iron were produced in the country in 10 months. This is an increase of 9.1 percent from 27.5 million tons in the same period last year.
During 10 months, about 48.9 million tons of iron ore pellets were produced in the country, showing a 7.7 percent growth compared to about 45.4 million tons in the same period last year.
Reportedly, Iran's annual steel production capacity is around 40 million tons. Iran plans to increase the figure to 55 million tons by 2025.
