BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 12. Iran has restarted 273 small mines and developed 84 more in the first nine months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through December 21, 2023), an official of Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO), Abbas Jorjani said, Trend reports.

Jorjani also said that these activities created 1,400 new jobs in the mining sector.

He added that 18 projects for resuming small mines and 24 projects for developing small mines are currently underway.

However, he did not specify how much the production output had increased due to the revival and expansion of the mines.

Iran has over 50 billion tons of mineral reserves and produces more than 400 million tons of minerals annually on average.

Last year (March 21, 2022-March 20, 2023), Iran reopened 434 small mines across various provinces.
