Iran’s import from Kazakhstan halves

BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 12. Iran's imports from Kazakhstan decreased by 50.4 percent in value and 51.1 percent in volume in the first ten months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2023 through January 20, 2024), compared to the same period last year, Trend reports.

As stated in the data from the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA), Iran imported nearly 124,000 tons of goods worth $56.3 million from Kazakhstan.

In the same period last year, Iran’s import from Kazakhstan was around 254,000 tons, valued at over $152 million.

The main imported goods were consisted of agricultural products, including wheat, barley, various types of equipment, etc., from Kazakhstan.

During the 10th month alone (December 22, 2023 through January 20, 2024), Iran imported 13,300 tons of goods worth $5.39 million from Kazakhstan.

The IRICA's latest data shows that Iran’s overall imports stood at 32.7 million tons, worth $54.3 billion, in the first 10 months of the current Iranian year, representing an 11.6 percent increase in value and a 6 percent increase in volume year-on-year.

In general, Iran mainly focuses on the import of essential products needed by the country and applies certain restrictions on the import of goods produced domestically.
