BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 16. Croatia and Azerbaijan are preparing an intergovernmental meeting and that would be an occasion to sign any new documents regarding our cooperation, a source at Croatian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development told Trend.
As for the upcoming Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council meeting to be held in Baku March 1, the source noted that Croatia will provide a short overview of developments regarding the Ionian Adriatic Pipeline (IAP) project.
“Last year a lot of effort was put in raising the energy
security in Southeast Europe.
At the beginning of 2021 our LNG terminal on the island of Krk
became operational and in August 2022 the Croatian government
decided to expand its capacity from 2.9 to 6.1 bcm. We are in the
process of moving forward with the Ionian-Adriatic Pipeline project
(IAP) and we find it very compatible with other aspects of the
security of supply policy. Favourable feedback was received from
the Government of Montenegro stating that they would like to
proceed and hopefully we will be successful in our endeavours.
Thus, we will focus on our activities of last year and at the same
time provide a short overview of developments regarding the IAP
project,” added the source.
The 10th meeting of the Advisory Council on the Southern Gas Corridor is scheduled for March 1st. This meeting will encompass the signing of several pivotal documents, focusing on both the expansion of the SGC and the inclusion of new participating countries, as well as initiatives related to green energy projects. A dedicated session will address these green energy projects alongside the negotiation of significant agreements.
Since December 2020, the Southern Gas Corridor has operated at full capacity, delivering gas to Italy (over nine billion cubic meters per year), Greece, and Bulgaria (one billion cubic meters per year each).
