Iran’s coal concentrate output shrinks

BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 20. Iran’s coal concentrate production (processing) dropped by 22 percent in the first ten months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2023 through January 20, 2024), compared to the same period of the previous year, Trend reports.

The data from Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO) shows that Iran produced 1.32 million tons of coal concentrate in this period, while the figure was about 1.7 million tons in the same period of the previous year.

The coal concentrate production in the ten-month period was distributed as follows: 815,000 tons in South Khorasan Province, 287,000 tons in Alborz Province, and 221,000 tons in Kerman Province.

The country also extracted 2.7 million tons of coal in this period, which was 29 percent lower than the nearly 3.82 million tons extracted in the same period of the previous year.

The coal extraction in the mentioned period was divided as follows: 1.71 million tons in South Khorasan Province, 508,000 tons in Kerman Province, and 484,000 tons in Alborz Province.

It is reported that Iran has a total coal reserve of about 14 billion tons, of which 1.2 billion tons are extractable. Iran also has the ability to extract 3.3 million tons of coal mineral and produce 1.9 million tons of coal concentrate annually.
