Tariffs on transportation of transit container cargos through the transport corridor Europe-Caucasus-Asia (TRACECA) will be decreased by 50%, Akif Mustafayev, the chairman of the permanent secretary of the TRACECA in Azerbaijan, told Trend.

According to Mustafayev, such agreement was achieved on the development of the transportations through the TRACECA within the meeting of the representatives of the Transport Ministry of Azerbaijan, the Georgian Ministry of Economic Development, and the Transport and Communications Ministry of Kazakhstan.

In accordance with the agreement the pilot train will set off in low tariffs on October 1. The transportation of a 20-ton container from the Georgian port Poti to the Asian countries trough Azerbaijan costs $1300, from Novorossiysk - $937," he noted.

Mustafayev acknowledged that the pilot train would first work in loss, but after involving container cargos from Europe to Asia and back they could make profits. “200 containers were transported via the TRACECA corridor last year,” he added.

The TRACECA agreed in this direction with railway authorities of Kazakhstan and Georgia. There is not final resolution of the Caspian Ship Company, while it is expected to come in a month.
