PROSPECT OF TEA-GROWING IN AZERBAIJAN DISCUSSED

The Ministry of Economic Development held a meeting with entrepreneurs and different experts to discuss prospect of tea-growing in Azerbaijan on Wednesday. The attending of the event were deputy heads of executive powers on agrarian issues in Zagatala, Masalli, Astara and Lankaran, representatives of international organizations and experts of processing enterprises.

Farhad Aliyev, the Minister of Economic Development, noted that major goal of the event was increase of tea production, discuss solution of problems in this sphere.

The experts underlined that the high yield of tea (34,000 tons) was registered in 1988. The figure comprised 1,048 tons in 2004.

There is 29,000 hectares suitable for tea-growing in the country, but most part of it is out of exploitation.

The participants of the meeting stressed that it was necessary to ensure farmers with preferential credit and clean polluted areas in order to develop tea-growing in the regions.
