$700,000-800,000 is required for the construction of each kilometer of premium quality roads in Azerbaijan. The Cabinet of Ministers told Trend the appropriate figure reaches $1.2m in Europe.
"Decrease in the cost of construction of each kilometer in Azerbaijan will be available only through selection of a contractor via tender. The expenses rise every year following a rise in the price of construction materials and increase of salaries,” the same source underlined.
According to the government’s forecasts, Azerbaijan needs over $2bn for the implementation of road projects. It is also possible to carry out work on the reconstruction and construction of major highways without consideration of projects on rehabilitation and construction of secondary highways.
The total length of the Azerbaijani roads is 24,000km, including 6km-long highways and 18,000km-long local roads.
