“The fare in the Baku subway will not rise in relation to the transition to the card system.” Taghi Ahmadov, the head of the Baku Metro, told Trend.

Ahmadov said that the Baku Metro would transit to the card system in March. Appropriate devices have been installed at the subways stations. “The chip cards replacing jetons are in sale in banks. Everbody can acquire them and use in the subway. The population will use both cards and jetons at the same time,” he underlined.

Ahmadov also noted that the government allocated 72bn manats for construction of new subway stations. “No foreign company invested in the construction. The money was allocated from the public budget. The construction will started by the Metro JSC from 2006 and one of the stations will be commissioned in 3 years,” he added.
