The reconstruction of the Hajigabul-Kurdamir highway reconstruction is scheduled to complete in September 2007. At present the Italian Todeni is involved in work over the rehabilitation of the land tissue of the road, after which the asphalt covering will be laid, the Transport Ministry said.
The 2-year project includes the construction of the 3.5km section of 85km-route (the first category 4-stripe), the rest part of the route will only be reconstructed (the second category two-stripe)
Earlier the Ministry has appealed to the European Bank with request to increase the loan for the reconstruction of the road of the first category. The European Banks rules urge that the expensive route can be regarded the one via which no less than 7,000 automobiles run, while only 4,000 automobiles will run via the Hajigabul-Kurdamir route a day. The Ministry plans to attract other financial institutes to the financing of project.
The project on the reconstruction of the Hajigabul-Kurdamir automobile route is implemented at the expense of a $41m credit to be provided by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Approximately $65m is required for the construction of the highway of first category.
