ADB to approve assistance for Asian and Pacific countries to tackle bird flu

A $39m technical assistance aimed at tackling the bird flu virus in Asian and Pacific countries will be approved by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Board of Directors on March 14. Following the approval of assistance the ADB jointly with FAO and the International Healthcare Organization will start distribution of aid among the bank member-countries, Trend reports.

ADB also cooperates with a number of other donors - US Agency on International Development (USAID), the World Bank etc. ADB will serve as a leading aid organization at the regional level, whereas WB at the world level. This agreement was reached at the Beijing International Conference on bird flu. Azerbaijan became the first country in the Caucasus and Central Asia to receive aid from ADB.
