World Bank's Mission for Health Protection Reforming to Arrive in Baku

Arrival of World Banks mission headed by public health expert and head of the project Enis Barish is arriving in Baku in the third decade of April to make the final assessment of Azerbaijans health protection system design, officials of Baku representation of the World Bank told Trend.

In the event of success, the project will be approved by the Council of the bank directors within fiscal year 2006 ended June 30 of the current year. For this purpose, official negotiations on credit agreement between WB and the Government of Republic of Azerbaijan are commencing in May.

Regardless of the possibility of the project price rise, WB is stating its eagerness to allot $45 to 50 mln from the funds of International Development Association (IDA). The government of Azerbaijan is investing the remaining amount. the project extension is planned due to the planned construction of hospitals in several pilot regions (5-10) in order to avoid inflow of the regions population to the capital. Here it is considered expedient to demolish old hospitals with empty spaces. The Ministry of Health is also intending to include construction of medical clinics in the countryside into the project.

The project was developed at the cost of WBs grant at $450 thous.
