First Deputy Transport Minister: Problems in Railways Connected with Wagon Return Issue

Problems connected with transportation of goods by railways were caused with several reasons including problems of returning of empty wagons from Turkmenistan and Georgia, problems of boundaries passing, and increase in volume of transportation of goods, Musa Panakhov, the First Deputy Minister of Transport of Azerbaijan Republic told Trend . According to him at present the control over the situation with boundaries passing by trains has become stronger

At present there are serious problems in Georgian railways. That caused restriction of transportation of goods in the direction of Georgian ports. Georgian ports cannot manage incoming cargo handling that causes stoppage of tank-wagons and its shortage as a consequence.

As a result tank-wagons are not sent back, there are interruptions with transportation of goods. Moreover, in 2006 Azerbaijan Railways has significantly increased its flow of traffic and volume of goods. According to the State Railway Company in the first six months of the year the volume of transportation of goods carried out by Azerbaijan Railways made up 151 m tons, that on 3, 312 m tons more than the scheduled volume. Over this period, 4 m tons crude and other oil products were transported by the Railway Company.

Some 800 tank-wagons have been accumulated in the Baku Sea Trade Port. They are meant for transportation of goods to Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan.
