IMF to Define Directions of Rendering Technical Assistance to Azerbaijan

Basel Zavoico, the head of the Baku Office of the IMF, told Trend that under the current visit, which started on 31 August, the Deputy Director of the Department for Work with the Near East Countries and Central Asia, Vitaliy Kramarenko, will define the opportunities for approval of technical assistance for Azerbaijan. The government and the National Bank of Azerbaijan appeal to the IMF for technical assistance. It is necessary to coordinate the importance and date of the visit of the technical missions, the head of the IMF Baku Office stressed.

Moreover, the IMF is also ready to continue improving the general methodology of calculation of consumer prices, Zavoico underscored.

The first technical mission visited Azerbaijan in February 2006. We intend to negotiate with the State Statistics Committee, additional assistance will be rendered if wanted. Perhaps, within the framework of the September mission on budget classification, which is expected to include representatives of the Statistics Department of the IMF, will discuss the issues concerning the methodology of calculation of inflation, Zavoico underscored.
