(autoinsidernews) - Honda has unveiled the production version of the Civic Type-R Concept that was shown at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year. The Civic Type-R is based on the Euro-only three-door hatchback and sports a black mesh grille, larger intakes in the front and a larger front spoiler. Out back, the Type-R gets an agressive rear spoiler, withe triangular exhaust tips poking out from the rear fascia, reports Trend.

The new Type R continues to be powered by the naturally-aspirated, high-rev 2.0L DOHC i-VTEC engine, which has been significantly reworked to improve responsiveness and means more useable torque. With the focus on usable torque, the Type-R gets in insignificant increase in power up to 201 PS (about 198-hp) at a lofty 8,000 rpm, compared to 200PS at 7,400 rpm. The Type-R is equipped with lower gearing to help offset the increased weight. Acceleration is expected to take 6.6 seconds to run to 62 mph, identical to the last Type-R, and go on to 146 mph. Sharper handling and more responsive steering is the result of a stiffer chassis, a lower ride height, wider track and stiffer damping.

Type-R pricing has not been announced for the Type-R, but it will go on sale in the U.K. in March 2007.
