WB offers $1 mln technical assistance to manage transport system of Azerbaijani capital

On September 20, the visit of the World Bank (WB) mission for city transport headed by the consultant Richard Podolski to Baku begins. WB expressed its readiness to present technical assistance up to $1 million to increase the efficiency of the transport system of Baku, Trend reports with reference to the Transport Ministry of Azerbaijan.

This finance is intended for assistance in eliminating traffic congestions, constructing new parks for buses, realizing additional stripes and generally managing the transport system of the capital.

In the future, the technical assistance may be accompanies with financial assistance that is the topic of discussions with WB.

Over the next four years, within the WB partnership strategy with Azerbaijan, it is planned to allocate $200 million for the infrastructure projects annually, Peter Thompson, Director of Energy and Infrastructure Sector of WB Infrastructure Department for European and Central Asian countries, told during his visit to Baku in August 2006.
