By the proposal of Azerbaijan`s Agriculture Ministry, excise rates on import of alcoholic drinks to the country are expected to be doubled in 2007, Trend reports.
There are negative facts in the production and import of alcoholic drinks, and we could not neutralize them yet. In this connection we appealed to the Cabinet of Ministers of the country with the proposal on increasing import rates. In addition, we are going to strengthen our struggle against the illegal and low-quality production of alcoholic drinks, Ismat Abbasov, Azerbaijan`s Agriculture Minister told.
According to him, it would be more expediently, if the output of this production were increased than its import. That is why; the policy on increasing of excises rates on the import will promote support of the national production on the whole.
