A National Plan of Action within the EU Neighbourhood Policy is expected to be approved during the meeting of the Council on Co-operation between the European Union & Azerbaijan to be held in Brussels on November 14. According to Asgar Alakbarov, the Executive Director of the Co-ordination Bureau on the TACIS Programs, an agreement on this issue was reached during the visit of the EU delegates to Azerbaijan at the beginning of October this year, Trend reports.
The Action Plan is considered for a period of 7 years. According to Mr. Alakbarov, the Action Plan will not be implemented at the expense of the EU alone. As the plan involves heavy commitment, which is to be fulfilled by Azerbaijan, funds are likely to be attracted from other financial resources and donors.
The document's main focus of the EU neighborhood is economic integration, intense political and cultural ties, as well as frontier co-operation. In accordance with the position of each party, the Plan also includes large-scale reforms to be carried out by the Azerbaijani Government in the next few years, as well as pre-requisites for the integration to the EU with regards to improving the legislation in the field of economy and policy.
