Work on Initial Variant of Azeri Customs Code Completed

Work on the initial variant of the Customs Code of Azerbaijan has been completed and submitted to the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan (SCC) for their consideration, the jurisprudence expert for the project Modernization of Customs System in Azerbaijan, Soltan Hadiyev told Trend. The SCC will, in due course, convey its recommendations and observations with regards to the document.

The final version of the Customs Code will then be devised and presented to the Government and the Parliament for their consideration.

Furthermore, a visit may be made to one of the countries of the European Union within the project.

According to foreign experts, the new code will significantly influence the integration of Azerbaijan to Europe and ensure the transparency and simplification of the customs procedures and efficiency of attracting foreign investments into the Country.

At present, within the framework of the one-year project funded by the European Commission and realized by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the visits of the Customs specialists and representatives of Azerbaijan to Estonia and Sweden (who are represented in the European Union and carry out customs procedures in accordance with the rules and principles of the European Union) have been organized so they are able to learn from the experience of these countries

The project amounts to в'¬900,000. The customs code of Azerbaijan is planned to take effect in 2007.
