The first prototypes of the BMW X6 crossover

(autoinsidernews) - Spy photographers have captured what is reported to be the first prototype of the BMW X6 crossover. Based on the X5, the X6 is likely a four-door crossover-coupe featuring a sloped roofline and BMW's signature sporty handling. The heavy camouflage hides much of the design, but the roof is expected to flow into a coupe-like hoffmeister kink, reports Trend.

Spies weren't certain of the exact identity of this prototype at first, since the V5 another X5 spin-off is also rumored to be in development. With the V5 likely following the following in the footsteps of Mercedes' R-Class, and with that vehicle's lukewarm reception, BMW appears to be putting the X6 ahead of the V5 in BMW's development cycle.

The BMW X6 is unlikely to be seen in showrooms for at least another two years, but could arrive a little sooner due to the extensive component sharing with the new X5.
