Azerbaijan Can Continue Transit of Oil Cargo from Russia to Georgia

By the end of 2006 the Azerbaijan State Railway (ASR) intends to close a tender on delivery of oil products from Russia to Batumi via the territory of Azerbaijan, Trend reports. At present the delivery of 50,000 tons of mazut via this route is underway, ASR informed.

The cargo suppliers voiced their further interests in this route and are ready to extend the order for transportation via this route next year. Currently the issue is in the process of consideration.

The delivery of transit oil cargo delivered from Turkmenistan by tankers via the Dagnefteproduct oil base and Turkmenbashi Makhachkala train ferry was launched in June 2006. The delivery was coordinated with Russian Railway, Azerbaijani and Georgian Railway Roads. The first order was made for 113,000 tons oil and oil products.
