(autoinsidernews) - Chevrolet announced the 2008 Equinox Sport yesterday a performance-oriented version of its Equinox compact SUV. Based on earlier spy shots, we expected the Equinox to get an SS version like its big brother the Trailblazer.
To provide the required motivation, the Equinox Sport is powered by GM's 3.6L 263-hp V6 mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with a manual tap up/tap down control feature. The Equinox Sport will deliver an estimated 0-60 mph time of less than seven seconds. To match the increased power, the Equinox Sport will feature a more aggressive stance, lowered suspension, 18-inch wheels, a tuned exhaust and unique exterior appointments, reports Trend.
The Equinox Sport features body colored front and rear fascias and a body color grille cross bar. The front and rear fascias have trapezoidal design cues also seen on the Trailblazer SS; the front fascia uses silver-painted trapezoidal air inlets, while the rear fascia features dual chrome trapezoidal-shaped exhaust outlets.
The 2008 Equinox Sport is scheduled to arrive at Chevrolet dealerships in the third quarter of 2007 and will be available in front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive models.
