National Bank of Azerbaijan Held Monitoring at Currency Exchange Market

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend , corr I. Khalilova / Rufat Aslanli, the Deputy Chairman of the National Bank of Azerbaijan (NBA), informed that 2 March the NBA have issued licenses for about 100 currency exchange stations in accordance to the new regulations on exchange operations.

The monitoring held by the NBA has revealed that the exchange stations are found mostly in crowded places. The statistics urge that there are over 40 banks and 460 bank branches in Azerbaijan providing exchange services as well.

"Now the population of Azerbaijan have the opportunity to have their currency exchanged in the banks, while the foundation of new exchange stations is underway now," Aslanli said.

In compliance with new requirements, the status of the exchange stations should be improved, thus the stations are to get the status of the bank unit. The regulations also concern rapid integration of exchange operations at the stations into the bank system; security and technical level, as well as professional staff.

The regulations have been in force since September, 2006.
