Khalilova / The Ministry of Transport reported on 19 April that the Azerbaijani State Railway (ASR) would allot $30mln for improvement of the railroad infrastructure in the country from 2007-2010. The potential of the ASR is limited for the time being due to the current tariffs for railroad services.
"The potential of the ASR could be expanded by doubling the tariffs in the TRACECA transport corridor. However, that is impossible due to the agreement reached between the member countries of the corridor," a source at the Ministry reported.
The major task for the time being is to increase the drawing potential of the corridor.
