Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr I.Khalilova / National Confederation of Azerbaijani Entrepreneurs (NCAE) considers it very important for Azerbaijani businessmen to enter the World Trade Organization (WTO), the head of NCAE, Alakbar Mammadov, has reported.

At present custom tariffs in Azerbaijan vary between 0.5% -15%. WTO requires the liberalization of tariff policy and the decrease of maximum custom tariffs down to 10%. "Joining WTO represents a great importance for Azerbaijani businessmen as primarily the lack of legislation impedes their activities," Mammadov said.

In accordance with WTO requirements the Azerbaijan Government has plans to unify national legislation within 2007-08. Some 40 standard juridical acts (including new acts and amendments in acting laws) will be developed. According to Alakbarov, one of the most important issues for today is to provide transparency in the export-import operations.

"Joining WTO will gain access to new export markets, new technology and innovations will be introduced at local market," he said
