Increase in Sales at Baku Farmers’ Markets

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr S. Babayeva / Over 17.5mln agricultural products were sold in Baku farmers' markets, according to the Azerbaijani Agriculture Ministry.

From 22 July 2006 to 7 July 2007, approximately 1.1mln t meat products, 525,800t of milk products, 537,300t of tinned products, almost 7mln t of vegetables, 2.7mln t of potatoes, 1.37mln t of melons and gourds, 415,500t of grains, 3.8t of fruits, and 7mln eggs were sold during the markets' times. During the same period, 208,400t of products were sold in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

This 7-8 July, 259,500t of agriculture products were sold in Baku farmers' markets. The markets aim to facilitate the urban population's access to fresh, local, and healthful food, and to prevent price hikes in agricultural products.

The markets are open every Saturday and Sunday in Surakhany, Narimanov, Yasamal, Khatai, Nizami, Binagadi, and Nasimi districts of Baku.
