Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend S.Babayeva / The Press Secretary of the State Veterinary Service of the Agriculture Ministry of Azerbaijan, Yolchu Khanveli, said on 7 August that testing for bird flu in Azerbaijan will be held at the end of October and beginning of November during the flight of migrant birds.

The testing will be carried out by a special commission consisting of specialist representatives of the Veterinary Service, Ecology, Natural Resources and Health Ministries, as well as representatives of the Hunting Community and will cover the Absheron peninsula, districts of Devechi, Salyan, Agjebedi and Lenkoran.

According to Khanveli, currently the bird flu situation is stable in Azerbaijan, but there is a threat during the flight of the migrant birds. This year, eight studies and tests were conducted in Azerbaijan and the bird flu virus has not been found.

To prevent the infiltration of the bird flu virus and other diseases (African plague, foot-and-mouth disease) into the country, all frontier veterinarian points are operating at medium-security, and the prohibition on hunting, selling and eating of wild birds in the country still remains in force.
