Azerbaijani Labour Minister Expresses Dissatisfaction With Labour Inspection’s Work

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. U.Ismaylova / Fizuli Alakparov, the Azerbaijani Labour and Social Protection Minister, expressed dissatisfaction with the operations of the Labour Inspection at the Ministry, Nabi Shukurlu, head of the Inspection, said.

Fizuli Alakparov held a conference with officials of the Inspection Department regarding the collapse of the sixteen-storied building in one of the central streets in Baku on 29 August.

The building constructed by Mutaffakir company collapsed on 28 August at 17:00. The head of the company, Askar Aliyev, was arrested in accordance with Article 222 (violation of safety rules in construction work) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.

The Minister expressed dissatisfaction with the Labour Inspection's functioning, after the held examinations.

The Labour Inspection held several raids at construction sites in Baku between January and June this year. The examination revealed 470 technical violations. Thirteen people died as a result of incidents at construction sites.

The Labour Inspection must hold raids even after the expiration of the checking term, the Minister ordered.

The Labour Inspection should submit corresponding information about violations to the heads of companies. In the case that the company should take no measures, then the Inspection should appeal to the corresponding bodies.
