Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend S.Aliyev / The President of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), Rovnak Abdullayev, discussed with Turkey's Prime Minister, Rajab Tayyip Erdogan, the issue of the agreement to transport Azerbaijani gas via the territory of Turkey. The gas will be delivered within the second phase of the development of the Shah Deniz field.
SOCAR's Head said on 20 September that the agreement, which will provide an opportunity to transport Azerbaijani gas to Europe, may be concluded in the near future. "The existing agreement with Turkey envisages transporting gas to the country, but not its transportation through it," the SOCAR President said.
According to the information by the Turkish Botas Company, Azerbaijan will supply more than 80bln cu m of gas to Turkey over the period from 2007 to 2020. Turkey is currently importing 3bln cu m of gas a year from Azerbaijan, 5bln in 2008, and 6.6bln over the period from 2009 to 2020 per year.
In addition, the meeting in Turkey focused on Azerbaijani-Turkish cooperation with regards to energy investment projects for SOCAR.
Turkey's Prime Minister expressed satisfaction with the projects realized by SOCAR in Turkey and its support for new projects.
