Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend / On 25 September in Baku BP has announced its Bursary Programme as part of the company's long-term commitment to Azerbaijan's successful future.

The initiative is designed to sponsor up to 50 university students who are specializing in petroleum engineering and geosciences at the Azerbaijani State Oil Academy. It will be open to all first year university students currently enrolled in either the Petroleum Engineering or Geological Prospecting departments at the State Oil Academy. The first scholars will be selected and enrolled in the programme by November 15, 2007

"The programme aims to encourage scholars to pursue careers in petrotechnical disciplines. Selection of students will be made on the basis of highly competitive admission score, academic achievements, personal skills and financial needs. We especially encourage students from regions and female students to apply to the programme," says Sue Adlam-Hill, BP AzSPU Vice President of Human Resources.

The BP Bursary Programme is a new BP initiative for Azerbaijan and is geared towards scholars interested in pursuing oil and gas related studies in Azerbaijan.

This year BP sponsors two other important educational programmes in Azerbaijan. The BP Scholarship Programme intends to promote economic and social development in Azerb aijan by enabling bright young Azerb aijani professionals to undertake postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom - and that on their return to Azerb aijan they contribute to the prosperity and sust ainable development of the country.

The Business Journalism Course is implemented by BP jointly with two other international organizations, the British Council and the Thompson Foundation. The course builds on the successful programme of English language tr aining for a large group of Azerb aijani journalists sponsored by BP and run by the British Council for over the past decade.
