Azerbaijan Defines Date to Repay its Electricity Debts to Iran to Iran

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend S.Aliyeva / Azerbaijan will finish repayment of its electricity debts to Iran in February 2008, Marlen Askarov, the Vice President of Azerenergy company said on 6 November.

Azerbaijan delivers 1.5-1.7 kW/h of electricity to Iran a day to cover its debt of 400mln kW/h.

Azerbaijan supplies the Nakhchivan Autonomic Republic with electricity through the Iranian deliveries. Azerbaijan receives electricity from Iran in winter period, when it feels shortage electricity and returns it in summer, when deficit is observed in Iran.

In accordance with the agreement, unless Azerbaijan returns all volume of electricity, it is committed to pay for it. However, Iran refused to return its debt through money and will return it through electricity supplies.

The electricity is returned to Iran with excess by 11%, which is referred as loss of Iran in the electricity delivery.
