Iran Unreliable Gas Supplier- US Department of State

Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend A.Badalova / The main reason for the Turkey to suspend the export of the natural gas to Greece, is the Iran's unreliability as a fuel supplier, said Shon McCormack, the Head of the Press Service of the US Department of State, in his reply to the questions which was published on the official web-site of the US Department of State.

" Turkey temporarily suspended supplying Greece with the very small amount of natural gas that it ships via the Turkey-Greece "Interconnector" portion of the Turkey-Greece-Italy pipeline. The Greek government has stated that it has the sufficient reserves and other sources of the gas to cover this unexpected shortfall," he said. According to him, Turkey imports the gas from the other countries, including Azerbaijan and it is incorrect to label the gas involved in this disruption as "Azeri gas".

According to the information by the Turkish Botas Oil Company, in 2008 Turkey will export 492mln cu.m of the gas to Greece. Turkey plans to purchase 5bln cu.m of the gas from Azerbaijan. Nearly 9.55bln cu.m of the gas will be purchased from Iran.
