Second Stage of SCADA Project Set up in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku, 15 January / corr Trend S.Aliyev / In the near future Azerbaijan will set up the second stage of the SCADA project (increase of efficiency of energy supply management) within the framework of the contract with the French company AREVA, Azerenerji said.

The French company will assist in bringing sixty high-voltage substations in Azerbaijan up to conformity with SCADA standards. These measures will be carried out within three years. The company will repair transformers and other equipment in the substations. In addition, the company will connect all stations to three dispatcher centres established in Azerenerji within the first stage of the SCADA project. With respect to this there are plans to build a 1,000km-long cable.

The establishment of the SCADA system will enable the repair of the energy network, as well as increase the efficiency of the energy supply and reduce losses. The project envisages the establishment of the SCADA system in all regions of Azerbaijan.

The total value of the project is estimated at $55mln, with $47mln to be allotted by the WB and $8mln by Azerbaijan. On 17 May 2005, the WB's Board of Directors approved the first credit on the conditions of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The project provides for the introduction of the SCADA system in all Azerbaijani regions.
