Azerbaijani President Participates in Foundation of New Hydro Power Station

Azerbaijan, Fuzuli, 18 April / corr Trend A.Ismayilova / The foundation of a new hydro-power station (HPS) was held in Fuzuli District of Azerbaijan located in the frontline of the Armenian -Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh on 18 April with the participation of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

The President said that the HPS located in the Araz River will supply in future electricity to Azerbaijani regions which will be liberated from the occupation of Armenian armed forces.

The conflict between the two countries of the South Caucasus began in 1988 due to Armenian territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Since 1992, Armenian Armed Forces have occupied 20% of Azerbaijan including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and its seven surrounding districts. In 1994, Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement at which time the active hostilities ended. The Co-Chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group ( Russia, France, and the US) are currently holding peaceful negotiations.

Azenko will build a reservoir with a capacity of 1.6mln cu m in the territory of the newly-built HPS.
