Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend I.Khalilova / Nearly $70-75mln is required for the construction of Garadagh underground gas reservoir, Deputy Chairman of Azerigaz CSC, Nazim Samedzade, said. The expenses on expansion of the gas reservoir will be born by the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR). The works are planned to be completed by the end of 2009.

Currently the volume of the gas reservoir Garadagh is 400-600mln cu.m. Today two gas reservoirs function in Azerbaijan - Garadagh and Kalmaz. Their capacity is planned to be increased up to 3bln cu.m. over the next two years.

"Expanding Kalmaz reservoir at this stage does not make any sense because the volume that this reservoir contain - nearly 1bln cu.m. - is enough," Samadzade said.

For the first time in 2006, Garadagh and Kalmaz reservoirs were filled with gas in volume of 1bln cu.m. According to Samadzade, today 540mln cu.m of gas has been pumped to the reservoir, considering the reminders of the last year, and the figure will be increased up to 1440mln cu.m by the end of the year.

Expanding Garadagh reservoir envisaging projecting gas compressor stations of high pressure and gas facilities to increase the volume of the active gas up to 2.3bln cu.m. There are plans to install equipment, re-construct old fund of wells, drill necessary new wells, specify the area of drilling, fully study wells and underground reservoirs.
