Azerbaijan, Baku 22 August / Trend corr. E.Ismayilov / The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) is testing new offshore well in West Absheron field with the forecasted recoverable oil reserves of 10mln tons of oil equivalent, the SOCAR Department of complex and geological exploration and topography said on 22 August.
"At present we are testing wells with the depth of 770m and studying the lowest geological bed," the Department said. The department will receive a compressor to conduct testing work within ten days.
After completion of the work at this well, it is planned to drill a new well in West Absheron with project depth of 850m. Geotechnical work was finished to drill a well in the field.
Drilling of exploration wells is necessary to specify recoverable reserves of the field and its delineations. Should reasonable hydrocarbon reserves are found at the area, exploitation wells will be drilled and platform for oil production will be installed
Exploratory drilling, which was held at different times, raised the SOCAR geologists' forecasts on recoverable reserves in West Absheron field from 5mln tons to 10mln tons of oil equivalent.
