Part of Work on Expansion of BTC Carrying Capacity Completed in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku, 3 Dec. / Trend , corr. E.ismayilov / Azfen company has completed entire volume of necessary works in THE Sangachal terminal within the framework of expansion of carrying capacity of the Baku- Tbilisi -Ceyhan(BTC) pipeline to 1.2mln barrels per day, a source from the company said.

"Work on expansion of carrying capacity of the pipeline performs not Azfen, but the company has completed necessary for this works on the terminal," the source said.

The source did not detail which concrete works had been carried out in the terminal.

Since the beginning of 2009, the carrying capacity of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline will be brought to 1.2mln barrels per day.  Murad Lekont, the spokesperson of BP in Turkey. The works in this direction are expected to be completed to the end of the year.

The expansion of the capacity of the pipeline to 1.6mln barrels of oil per day has not been considered yet, Lenkont said.

The cost of expansion of the carrying capacity of BTC pipeline from 1mln barrel per day to 1.2mln barrel per day is estimated at $69mln. Special equipment for the usage of inhibitor (chemical reagent) will be installed on the pipeline. Now the works on the expansion of the carrying capacity of the pipeline is being carried out in the territory of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey.

Currently, about 600,000 barrels of oil per day is pumped via BTC.

Since April 2007, the delivery of the Azerbaijan light oil on world markets is achieved via BTC. In 2007, some 28mln tons of oil was pumped via the pipeline. Since the beginning of export via BTC a total of 45mln tons of oil was pumped via the pipeline.

Construction of BTC costs $4mln. These are expenditures for construction work; filling of conduit, financial expenditures and payment of bank percentages here do not enter. The sum of general financial credit is $2.6bln.

BTC Company shareholders are BP (30.1%); AzBTC (25%); Chevron (8.9%); Statoil Hydro (8.71%); ТРАО (6.53%); Eni (5%); Total (5%); Itochu (3.40%); Inpex (2.50%); ConocoPhillips (2.50%) and Hess (2.36%). Pipeline's design carrying capacity is 1mln barrels of oil per day.
