Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 18 /corr. Trend E.Ismaylov / "During acquisition of 50 new locomotives, the State Railway Department of Azerbaijan (SRDA) will give preference to the trains manufactured by the South Korean companies," the head of SRDA press service, Nadir Azmammadov, said.
This decision was made at the meeting, which took place in Baku with the representatives of the South Korean companies of Daewoo and Hundai on Dec. 18.
"As a result, an agreement was erached that the Azerbaijan Railway will acquire the locomotives of these companies in future," said Azmammadov.
The SRDA is satisfied with the cost of South Korean locomotives. The possible price of new trains was not revealed, Azmammadov said.
According to him, since the cost of the locomotives, which work on alternating current, is too high, a decision is made that 70% of new locomotives will work on the direct current, and 30% - alternating, said Azmammadov.
At the invitation of Korean side, the delegation of Azerbaijan Railway workers will leave for Korea in the beginning of 2009 for studying the work of the locomotives, which work on direct current.
