Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhambetov said oil-and-gas production must increase in the country, an official source in Turkmenistan said.

A recent governmental meeting outlined goals to establish a system to deliver energy resources to world markets, execute interstate obligations and develop new fields in the Amudarya basin and other areas.

Turkmenistan expects natural gas production to increase by 75.8 billion cubic meters in 2009 compared to 70.4 billion in 2008. A key gas exporter in the region, Turkmenistan supplies a major share of its exported gas to Gazprom.

Deputy Prime Minister Tachberdi Tagiyev talked about the progress of several ongoing investment projects, including the Turkmenistan-China gas pipeline and Gurrubil-Garabil gas condensate fields.

Berdimuhambetov said Turkmenistan wants broad international energy cooperation due to its immense hydrocarbon reserves.

"Turkmenistan's policy is to acquire more and more international recognition," he said.
