The press service of the national holding company Uzbekneftegaz said that a phased exploration work program for 2006-2011 for gas exploration and development areas was approved. The program was approved by the board of Gazprom and the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan. In December 2006, Uzbekistan issued a license to Gazprom for geological studying Shahpahtin, Agyin, Akchala, West Urgin, Kuanysh, Aktumsuk and Nasambek blocks.
An agreement on the basic principles and provisions of the production sharing agreement to develop fields in Urga, Kuanysh and Akchalak group in the Usturt region was signed between Uzbekistan and Gazprom. Under these documents, Gazprom has made a commitment to invest 400 million dollars in exploration in Usturt over five years.
"The exploration work program consisted of three phases. Each subsequent phase is dependent on the previous one. The project is constantly adjusted as the refinement of data exploration, which is in line with best practice implementation of major capital projects.
The first phase will cover two years (2006 - 2008). During this time, 215 million dollars investment was attracted, regional seismic work in 1,000 linear kilometers carried out, including Aktumsuk, Agyinsk and Nasambek blocks -772 and Shahpahtin block - 228. Ten gas prospective fields were studied.
