Kazakhstan bans the burning of gas flares by 2010

Kazakhstan, Astana, February 12 / Trend K. Konyrova / Kazakhstan intends to ban the burning of associated gas in flares in 2010. This was stated today in Astana by chairman of environmental regulation and control of the Ministry of Environmental Protection Murat Rahimbergenov, transmits the correspondent of Kazinform.

�We have signed memorandums with major companies and agreed that the combustion of gas in Kazakhstan in 2010 will be stopped�, - said Murat Rahimbergenov.

In 2005 a law "on oil" came out, under which the burning flares should have been banned, but larger companies have stated that in this case even stop its production. The State then went to meet them, to extend the moratorium on the combustion gas.

Annually flares in Kazakhstan burn over 25 billion cubic meters of gas.
According to Rahimbergenov, last year's 43 largest enterprises of the country, responsible for 80 percent of emissions, spent 123 billion tenge in their decline.

Last year was also fined more than six thousand economic entities of almost 18 billion tenge in total. 175 materials of the suspension were sent to the courts. The work of 119 companies was suspended.
