In January 2009, Azerenerji JSC received roughly 444,000 cubic meters of gas as fuel, compared to roughly 360,000 cubic meters in January 2008, the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (Socar) reported.
In 2008, Azerenerji received roughly 5 billion cubic meters of gas compared to roughly 3.4 billion cubic meters in 2007.
In April 2007, Azerbaijan's gas operation mutual account system was changed. Today, Socar sells gas directly to Azerenerji, whereas previously Azerigaz JSC was in charge of the operation.
Azerenerji failed to pay Azerigaz for the supplied gas in a timely manner and Azerigaz became indebted to Socar. Today, Azerigaz only transports gas to power stations.
