Tengizchevroil is an operator on the Kazakh Tengiz field and increase oil transportation through Azerbaijan by 30,000-40,000 tons each month, Azerbaijani State Caspian Shipbuilding Company head Aydin Bashirov said on Feb. 26.

He did not specify the amount transported.

"Oil transportation is expected to reach four million tons each year by 2010," Bashirov said.

Some 285,100 tons of Kazakh oil was transported via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) in 2008. Transportation began in October.

At present the Kazakh oil is transported by three Azerbaijani and two Kazakh tankers.

The oil is delivered to Baku with tankers and then pumped through the BTC or sent via railway to the Georgian Black Sea terminals that belong to KazMunayGaz.
